Kier Group is many things to many people. We’re a leading Regional Builder, the UK’s No. 1 Highways service team and a Top-Three Utility & Power provider. We’re an industry-leader in health and safety at work – and a responsible citizen who adds billions of pounds of social value to the communities where we do business. Above all, we’re a team of people built on many backgrounds and experiences, a company that values you for who you are and what you do.
Every day, 210,000 vehicles travel across the 31,000km of roads, bridges and tunnels that are built, maintained and operated by the team here at Kier Group. It’s one of the reasons why we’re acknowledged as the UK’s No.1 Highways Services team – delivering £1 billion of social value to the six million people and wider communities who rely on our expertise and experience. Can you join our team? Yes, you can – if you want to be valued for who you are as well as what you do, in a company shaping the future.
Kier Strategic Highways provides a vital service in Cumbria and North Lancashire (Area 13 network) to the motorways and trunk roads, in which the maintenance & repair team are responsible for delivery of all routine and cyclic maintenance, winter service, emergency response and reactive repair works across the Area 13 network. We are now recruiting for Highways Maintenance Operatives to join the Area 13 team to carry out routine maintenance activities on the network, including grass strimming, litter picking, sign and emergency telephone cleaning, and marker post replacement.
Where required as well, you will be asked to install, maintain, remove temporary traffic management, undertake severe weather duties (e.g. gritting, flood clearance etc.), and undertake reactive repairs to damaged/defective assets. Vitally, you would be involved in responding to incidents when directed to do so by Highways England, liaising with Highways England at the scene of road traffic incidents working with them to clear the scene as quickly as possible, and assisting with the deployment of other resources to incident scenes as required.
Interested? Are you capable of working under pressure within a safety critical role? Are you capable of working with minimal supervision? Have you got experience in traffic management or in a similar role? Yes? We’d love to hear from you! However, we need you to have a full driving licence, and it is desirable, but not essential, if you have a current first aid certificate, and a HGV licence.
You can expect a competitive salary and a strong benefits package that includes:
- Free Life Assurance
- Access to our valuable pension scheme – Kier Retirement Savings Plan
- Generous annual leave allowance
- Options to participate in Cycle2Work and Payroll Giving schemes
- Two employee Share Scheme options
- Flexible and Agile working (dependent on your role)
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Access to Kier Rewards, our exclusive Discount Shopping Site with deals available at over 800 retailers
- Plus, many more benefits geared to your wellbeing
It’s worth remembering that we’ll undertake the relevant/standard employment checks if you’re successful in the selection process. This includes taking up your references, as well as checking your ID, driving licence (if appropriate) and your right to work in the UK. Some roles may also be subject to further pre-employment checks. We encourage flexible working wherever possible in your role – and this may allow you to work from home or from one of our other offices/sites, if appropriate.
